Dillon Colorado is a town with charm, beautiful vistas of the lake that shares its name, and a fascinating history. The town was formed during the heyday of the mining era, but the original location is now under water. Several of the historic buildings were relocated during the formation of the lake, and now house local businesses in Dillon and Silverthorne.

Dillon is a self-sustained community, and offers many attractive lodging options of hotels and condominiums. Several fine restaurants and bars, including a brew pub where you can enjoy hand crafted beers. Also, ski shops, medical and dental practices, and a U.S. Post Office.

The Dillon Marina is the highest in the nation at 9600 feet, and during the season the lake is dotted with unfurled sails and powerboats cutting across the water. An incredible sight framed by the surrounding mountains, and beautiful shoreline.

There is a large family picnic area complete with tables and grill stands. Here too you will find the Dillon Amphitheater which hosts music and theater events. This park area is a great place to watch the 4th of July fireworks that are mirrored in the lake.

Visit the Dillon Historical Society to see a structure dating to the days of the Mountain Man, and learn more about the history of this unique mountain community.

Today's Photo: Soon the lake will freeze over completely, but for right now still time to drop a line. And whether they're biting or not, just enjoying the view makes it a worthwhile use of time.
